Soil mixing technique is performed by using hollow drilling rods with augers or special made paddle tips. The mixing can be executed using dry or wet technique. While Dry Mixing is a treatment of the soil with dry cementitious binder to construct a single column, Wet Mixing (or Deep Mixing) consists of mixing cement with soil to form a mixture, to treat also large soil areas.
Wet Soil Mixing is executed by applying low or high pressure cement injection through the drilling rods that flow at the bottom by means of nozzles applied to the drilling tip. The technique requires to withdraw the drilling tools during injections up following to the designed mixing result and controlling the injected cement mixture pressure.
It is a soil improvement and consolidation technique but it can be also used as an alternative to trench excavation and for the formation of constructed columns.
